ABSENT? Turn in vocab lesson six and make an appointment to come in and take test six. Also, pick up or print the HANDOUT, vocab lesson seven, which is due Monday, October 9.

TUESDAY, October 3
We discussed the Synthesis Question and our pre-writing activity from last Thursday.

WEDNESDAY, October 4
As a group, students read about the colonial period in the American Literature textbook. They took notes as a group about major influences and events of the time period and decided as a group which influences/events are most important and how to fit them on the front only of one piece of paper. The notes of every group member must look the same as the the notes of every other group member.

ABSENT? Read pp.37-44. Decide on your own which influences/events are most important and fit your notes onto the front only of one piece of paper.

THURSDAY, October 5
Individually, students read four different pieces from the colonial period. Students did SOAPS on each piece to prepare for a synthesis discussion we'll have tomorrow.

READING ASSIGNMENT: from "On Plymouth Plantation," "The Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson," "An Offer of Help," and "Upon the Burning of our House"

ABSENT? Read the four pieces listed above and do SOAPS on each one.


FRIDAY, October 6
Today is the deadline for switching to a different outside reading choice.

Synthesis discussion of the four pieces we read yesterday.

ABSENT? You can't really make up this discussion, so your job will be a little harder. You'll hafe to find notes and ask enough people that you start to have an idea of what we talked about, what we learned, how it went, who spoke, who didn't speak...etc.
