Pre-AP August 20-24

MONDAY, 20 August
We annotated a passage from "The Prison Door."
Then students formed groups to continue the discussion.

ABSENT? Get notes from someone whose notes you trust.

TUESDAY, 21 August
"A rose by any other name..."
Groups completed this sentence, "In 'The Prison Door,' the wild rose bush symbolizes ___________ because ____________." Then students found a quote from chapter 1 to use as evidence for this explanation. Then groups applied this symbolism to each of the four major characters: Hester, Dimmesdale, Chillingworth, and Pearl. We wrote, "For Hester, the rose symbolizes ________ because __________." Then we offered evidence from some other part of the book (not "The Prison Door").

ABSENT? Ask a group member for notes. Provide your own input, so you can have a say about where this project goes for your group.

WEDNESDAY, 22 August
Groups had one more day to complete "A rose by any other name..." and prepare it for display.

ABSENT? Get notes from someone whose notes you trust. You'll need to write this paragraph, building around the quote we got from an interview of a classmate.

THURSDAY, 23 August
In the same groups, students started the chapter group assignment.

ABSENT? Pick up or print the chapter group assignment and get notes from someone whose notes you trust. Talk to your group about it until you are sure you understand the assignment.

FRIDAY, 24 August
Students had the hour to work in their chapter groups.

ABSENT? Check with your group to find out what they accomplished.
