MONDAY, September 17
Graded Vocab lesson 4
Took Vocab Test 4
Started vocab lesson 5 , which is due Monday, 24 September

ABSENT? Grade vocab lesson four (I have the key at my desk.) Make an appointment to come in and take test four. Also, pick up or print the vocab lesson five, which is due Monday, 24 September.

TUESDAY, September 18
Students punctuated a Dear John letter . On one side of the letter, students punctuated to make the letter have a positive meaning. On the other side, students punctuated to make the letter have a negative meaning. Students labeled each side of the paper: positive or negative. Then they turned them in.

ABSENT? Pick up or print a copy of the Dear John letter and follow the instructions above.


WEDNESDAY, September 19
Students prepared for Thursday's timed writing.

First students completed "You Be the Judge." (Instructions are printed on the handout.) Second, students compared the 10th grade rubric to the 9th grade rubric, highlighting the changes they found.
Finally, everybody got a chance to see the prompts for tomorrow's timed writing.

ABSENT? Pick up or print copies of the handouts above and complete the assignments. Make sure you're ready for tomorrow's timed writing. You may bring notes for the timed writing, but you must write your essay in class.


THURSDAY, September 20
Students completed the first district writing assessment. You may see the prompt here, but you must complete the timed writing in class.

After the timed writing, students started reading "Intro to the Colonial Period" in the literature book and completed a set of guiding questions to make sure they caught all of the important parts.

ABSENT? You'll have to make up the timed writing during class as soon as you return. Then you'll have to make up whatever you miss that day while you're making up the timed writing.


FRIDAY, September 21
SSR: Students read silently all hour.

Read the rationale and rules for SSR. Then make sure you bring a book or magazine, something that YOU WANT TO READ FOR AN HOUR, as long as it's appropriate for school.

ABSENT? You don't have to make up SSR, but you should find an hour or so when you can read and be uninterrupted...a girl can dream, can't she?
