TUESDAY, March 7
We read "When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer" and "I Hear America Singing," two poems by Walt Whitman. Students worked alone or in pairs to write an imitation of one poem and then to draw illustrations to accompany their new poem.
HANDOUT--Pre-AP Poem Imitation
ABSENT? Read the two poems listed above. They are in the literature book you have at home. Choose the one that you like and understand better. Write an imitation of this poem and illustrate your poem. You'll have to write your imitation without a partner. Print or pick up a copy of the handout to find the complete instructions. If you don't know how to do the assignment, talk to me during class or before or after school.
WEDNESDAY, March 8
Students continued to work on their imitations of a Whitman poem. Students will have some time Friday to finish their illustrations. Poems are due Friday.

THURSDAY, March 9
SSR--Students read quietly all hour.
ABSENT? Missing SSR does not hurt or help your grade. You do not have to make up the reading.
FRIDAY, March 10
Enrollment in the computer lab. As we finished, we returned to class, and students put the finishing touches on their poems and hung them on the wall.
