Grade Checks:
I hand out grade checks to all students regularly, usually every two weeks.

I do not require my students to take them home for a signature, but if you're checking this website, you'll be "in the know."

Grade Check Dates

As soon as Crosspointe offers the grade check report that I've been asking for, I will be able to print grade checks for my students.

There is nothing on the grade check that should be foreign to my students, so they should all be able to explain the information to you.  If you have any questions, contact me. .

SOME SPECIAL CODES YOU MIGHT SEE ON MY GRADE CHECKS:
(A) means the student was absent. If the work was made up, it should be full credit (unless your student took too much time to turn it in).
I
f the work was not made up, you will see a zero there.
(L) means the student turned in this assignment late and the grade you see is half credit.
.1 means that the student turned in this paper, but it was too late to earn credit for it.
.2 means the assignment was incomplete, which probably accounts for that one low grade.
.3 indicates that the student was copying or allowing someone else to copy.
.4 means the student committed a procedure infraction on this paper: wrong heading, no heading, spiral paper, pencil, wide-lined paper, etc.
.5 means I wrote a note on the paper asking the student to come talk to me.

If you see others and would like an explanation, please contact me.

Late Work:

Student may earn half credit for assignments turned in one day after the due date.

When a student shows some initiative, I will be more flexible.

Initiative takes several forms:
coming to see me before or after school to get help
going to Homework Helpers at lunchtime for help
telling me well before the due date that s/he is having trouble
calling or emailing me for help
making an effort to be absent less and miss fewer explanations during class

Extra Credit:

Extra credit is available each quarter and at the end of the year.
Students can find typos in print all year (for up to fifty points each quarter)
and turn in unused hall passes at the end of the year
(for up to 20 points added to semester test grade).

They can also earn up to 20 points each week by writing a story using a pre-selected set of words. The words and due dates are listed on the extra credit page of my website. The words are also available in my room.

Click here to read more details or to find the word lists.

Contacting Me:
Call me at school.
461-4269

You can reach me on my plan hour,
and the best time to catch me at my desk is from 9:20-9:45.

You can always leave me a voice mail, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

OR

e-mail me
Sometimes I'll be able to answer your e-mail even as a class is in my room,
so this might be a quick and easy way to get a quick and easy answer.

I can also take some time at the end of the day to write you
a longer answer to a longer question.
